Michelle L. Carey joined Friedman and Holtz, P.C., now Friedman, Maguire & Carey, P.C., in March, 1993, as a legal secretary/paralegal. Ms. Carey became an associate in May, 2010, upon her admission to the Illinois Bar. Ms. Carey was also admitted to the Florida Bar in May 2011. Ms. Carey received her Bachelor of Arts from DePaul University with a concentration in Political Science and Sociology. She received her J.D. from The John Marshall Law School (cum laude) in January, 2010 and earned her LLM in Information Technology and Privacy Law in January 2011 from The John Marshall Law School.
Ms. Carey served as Editor-in-Chief of The Journal of Computer and Information Law from May 2010 to May 2011 as part of her LLM program and while in law school, Ms. Carey served as Solicitation Editor of The Journal of Computer and Information Law. Ms. Carey is also a member of Phi Delta Phi International Legal Fraternity and was elected to membership in the Stevens Inn at the John Marshall Law School for her academic achievement.
Since joining Friedman Maguire & Carey, Ms. Carey has handled issues involving privacy and technology law, and civil litigation matters involving real estate, contracts, construction, mechanic's liens and other commercial litigation.
Ms. Carey is a member of the American Bar Association, the Illinois State Bar Association, the Chicago Bar Association and the DuPage County Bar Association. Ms. Carey and Ms. Maguire recently co-wrote an article for the ABA Section of Science & Technology Law's Information Security & Privacy News entitled "Do Weblogs and Social Networks Necessitate Increased Privacy Protections for Jurors?"
